Despite the loss, the team did get recognition for the players’ hard work. Seven Gee-Gees players were recognized by the OUA for their strong performances this year, both on and off the field.
The Gee-Gees women’s soccer team has advanced to the second round of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs, after hanging on to a 1-0 lead against the University of Toronto in round one. For many, it was a flashback to last year’s first round, where the Gees also beat the U of T 1-0.
The Gee-Gees sit atop the OUA East division as the only undefeated team.
A signature of the Gees women’s soccer team has always been defence by attrition. Other teams cannot score if they don’t have the opportunity to.
Consistency is key in sport, and it’s hard to expect a team to struggle when they haven’t done so for the better part of two decades.
