Wheelchair wheels slump over staircase

After studying for five years at the University of Ottawa as a disabled student, I think it fair to say that it isn’t the pillar of accessibility. Yes, most buildings on campus have at least one wheelchair-friendly entrance, and the U of O’s Student Academic Success Service promises to meet student accomodations…but is it enough?

The damage occurred over the winter break on the fourth floor of conference room 464. Access to the main stairwell and the room is now restricted for safety, but additional facilities and classes are fully operational.

U of O Facilities says it acted immediately to clean the small pieces of glass that shattered along the floors and stairwell.

The unveiling served as an opportunity for U of O professors in both the science and engineering faculties to speak on key topics in their fields, including green manufacturing, fluid mechanics, nanofabrication of devices, energy conservation at the nanoscale, and reducing the environmental footprint of pharmaceutical manufacturing.
