Organizers have announced that this year’s Capital Pride festival is set to take place from August 17-23. This will be the 30th anniversary of the event.

This year, the festival will be focused on Bank Street and the village in lieu of City Hall. The parade, which takes place on Aug. 23, begins at Bank and Gladstone at 1 p.m. and ends at the intersection of Bank and Somerset at 3 p.m.

A new Capital Pride organization has been created to run the festival after the previous organizers declared bankruptcy last December. This came after an investigation by the group’s board showed they were $106,000 in the red.

The new festival producer, Joanne Hughes, said in an interview with the Ottawa Sun that she aimed “to ensure that the festival is financially viable, and that it is inclusive and welcoming to all members of the Rainbow Community.”

According to CBC reporter Matthew Kupfer, Capital Pride chair, Tammy Dopson, said a new non-profit model will ensure “Capital Pride would go on.”
