A 26-year-old Florida woman has been charged with a hit-and-run in Miami that has left former University of Ottawa student, Alexander Sanghwan in critical condition.

Police say 22-year-old Sanghwan was walking on the edge of the road in a well-lit area around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, when he was hit by a blue BMW. The vehicle then fled the scene, near King of Diamonds Gentleman’s Club.

The driver, Olivia Bennett, who works as a stripper, turned herself in the next day. She is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury.

“I’m just numb,” said Shanghwan’s mother, Patricia Shanghwan to the CBC. “I can only think for my son. He’s such a good boy, he has such a future ahead of him.”

Sanghwan remains in critical condition with multiple injuries at Jackson Memorial Hospital. His family said he was in town for the 2015 Ultra Music Festival in downtown Miami.
