Zaher “Zach” Nourreddine a 25-year-old former University of Ottawa student has died in hospital after he was violently robbed in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue in Toronto. Police were called to the scene shortly after midnight on Dec. 30 and found Nourreddine injured outside a bar.

The attack “was a very brazen robbery” said Toronto Police Detective Jeff Allington to reporters at the scene. “I would certainly say that he was targeted and the people that robbed him chose him over any other number of people walking down the road.”

Nourreddine attended both Algonquin College and the U of O, majoring in communications beginning in 2011.  According to CTV News, he worked as a journalist and salesperson.

Police are looking for three men who were wearing “dark clothing” and fled the scene in a light-coloured, four-door sedan. Police are also asking businesses with security camera footage of the area to contact them.
