Hadi Wess is running in the upcoming municipal election

A formal complaint with the Ottawa Police Services (OPS) was made by a resident of Barrhaven on Sept. 15 against Hadi Wess, former Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) president, who is currently running for city council in Ward 3, Barrhaven.

The resident alleged that Wess utilized harassment and intimidation tactics in an attempt to speak with her while campaigning door-to-door.

The complaint was first reported in the Barrhaven Independent on Sept. 28 in which they say the OPS confirmed a report had been filed. Wess responded to the article on Oct. 11 in a statement posted on social media labeling the Barrhaven Independent as “just another bias media source.”

In the statement, Wess issued a denial saying, “the allegations are completely false.” In addition, he said that after speaking with OPS, no report exists and no communication between the OPS and the Barrhaven Independent has occurred directly denying the initial reporting.

The Barrhaven Independent responded with a statement of their own on Oct. 12. The newspaper stated they had made contact with OPS after Wess’ statement on Oct. 11. According to the statement, in this conversation the OPS said they had not commented, confirmed nor denied the incident.

The OPS confirmed to the Fulcrum that no charges have been laid at this time.

According to both the Barrhaven Independent and Hadi Wess, the two parties have been in contact.

In August, Wess filed a police report alleging fraudulent behaviour by three of the executives at the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa.
