In light of recent events, it’s perhaps more important than ever for students at the University of Ottawa to be able to get the support they need.

The university states that it’s “committed to providing a respectful learning and workplace environment that is free from harassment and discrimination.” Of the 119 incidents reported to the university’s Office for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in 2011–12, 15 per cent were instances of discrimination, 34 per cent harassment, and 43 per cent sexual harassment. In the last year, the U of O has seen major instances of all three.

Students at the U of O should know about major incidents that occur, and those involved should work toward ways to prevent them and help make campus a better place to be. Not only that, but all members of the U of O community should know what services are available to them when situations arise and they need some form of help or guidance.

More than 40,000 people call the U of O their school. Let’s make sure those people get to have the university experience they deserve.
