The Gees loss the series 2-1

The University of Ottawa women’s hockey team was eliminated from contention in the Réseau du Sport Étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) bronze medal playoffs by the Bishop’s University Gaiters.

On St. Patrick’s Day, the Gaiters stunned the heavily favoured Gee-Gees by taking game one of the series 4-0 at the Minto Sports Complex. The Gees had won all three previous matchups in the regular season.

With the possibility that the series may not return to Ottawa, the Gee-Gees honoured graduating players Jaime MacDonald, Mikaila Kraczynski, Alyssa MacMillan, and Christine Deaudelin before the game.

In an interview with the Fulcrum, Deaudelin was asked to share her favourite memory as a Gee-Gee.

“There’s so many to pick from. But I think in my third year, we had a six-game winning streak. That was a great team moment for all of us,” said the Gees captain.

On Saturday, the Gees turned the tables on the Gaiters beating them 4-0 in Sherbrooke, Qc. Katherine Birkby, Ariane Minville each had a goal and Kylie Lalonde had two.

With the win, the Gees forced a third game to be played on Sunday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Gee-Gees, it’s Bishop that came out on top on Sunday, beating Ottawa 3-2 thanks to three straight goals in the second period, ending the U of O’s season.
