Gees win first playoff game of 2012

FOR THE FIRST time since 2008, the Garnet and Grey made it to the Ontario University Athletics playoffs, winning their first match-up against the Nipissing University Lakers 5-2.

Matthieu Methot, who returned to the ice after recovering from an injury last game, made the first playoff score of 2012, tapping the puck in after a scramble in front of the net. Nipissing retaliated to tie the period 1-1.

Within the first minute of the second, Alexandre Touchette slipped the puck past the Lakers for the lead.

Stephen Blunden added on another point for the Gees, bringing the second period to a 3-1 close.

Touchette slapped in another goal at the beginning of the third, followed by a quick shot by Nipissing. Touchette finished the game with a shot into an empty goal in the last 30 seconds.
