Gee-Gees still winless following loss to McGill

The Gee-Gees women’s hockey team continued to struggle the afternoon of Oct. 27 against the McGill Martlets.

Despite out-shooting their opponents 35-28, the Gee-Gees’ offence could only beat Martlets goalie Tricia Deguire a single time on their way to a 3-1 loss.

Sara Lachance opened the scoring with 25 seconds left in the first period on passes from Christine Deaudelin and Adele Dossou to give the Gees a 1-0 lead.

McGill answered in the second period with two goals from forward Lea Dumais to take the lead into the dressing room.

Dumais would add a goal in the third on the power-play, recording the hat-trick and to make it 3-1, lasting until the final buzzer for McGill’s third win of the season.

In the loss, goaltender Maude-Levesque Ryan stopped 25 shots. The Gee-Gees took 10 minutes of penalties while the Martlets only spent six minutes in the sin bin.

The U of O now have three losses on the season, and are still in search of their first win.

They sit at the bottom of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec standings, but with a victory versus the also winless Carleton Ravens on Nov. 1,  the Gee-Gees could leapfrog the Ravens and take over fourth place.

The Gee-Gees’ next home game will take place on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. against the Montreal Carabins at Minto Sports Complex, in a rematch of their 6-0 season-opening game in Montreal. Before that gets underway, they will face crosstown rivals Carleton on Nov. 1 at the CU Ice House, puck drop at 7 p.m. For tickets or more information click here.
