Last weekend, five Fulcrum editors took part in a collaboration with the Gee-Gees cheerleading team. We were invited to a cheerleading practice where coach Nailah Taylor and her team taught us basic cheerleading maneuvers. It wasn’t all pretty but fun was had by all — here’s what the different editors had to say about their experiences.

The Guelph Gryphons and Algoma Thunderbirds gave it their all this weekend but it wasn’t enough to beat the No. 3 nationally ranked Gee-Gees. Calvin Epistola, Borys Minger, and Kevin Civil had themselves a nice weekend on the court as the Gees overpowered Guelph 88-70 and Algoma 88-67.

Nieve Seguin is a four-year veteran on the U of O’s women’s volleyball team. Hailing from the small Franco-Ontarian village of Casselman, she looks to help a struggling team come back to relevance while balancing a tough med school schedule.

The men’s basketball team opened their regular season with a big test on Friday night at Montpetit Hall. The Gees faced the No. 6 ranked program in the country, the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks, in what promised to be a heated affair.

The University of Ottawa women’s basketball team opened up their season on Friday night with a strong performance on home court. Head coach Andy Sparks’s troops dominated the Laurier Golden Hawks in a blowout win.
