The team lost all three of their games to put an end to their inaugural season in the OUA, in which the team won only three regular-season games. Adding to the list of accolades for the Gee-Gees women’s soccer team, the Ottawa Sports Awards committee has selected head coach Steve Johnson for male coach of the year.
The Nov. 24-25 weekend offered up an exciting series of back-to-back home games, as the Gee-Gees men tackled two tough teams from the OUA West division.
The Gee-Gees are moving on to the gold medal match after knocking off the McMaster Marauders in the U Sports semifinal game on Nov. 10.
The women’s soccer team defeated the Western Mustangs 1-0 on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 4 to win their ninth OUA championship in team history.

The offensive woes for the Gees were highlighted all night. The Gee-Gees could only manage 27 yards rushing and went their third game of the year without scoring an offensive touchdown.
With a 30-8 dismantling of a bitter rival and high quality team, the Gees appear to be for real.
The Gees may have been the favourite heading into the gold medal match on their home floor, but instead it ended in a 66-60 upset.
The game quickly turned into a shootout with Gee-Gees quarterback Derek Wendel spreading the ball and commanding the offence. The Gees found the endzone four times in the first half, and at one point held a 32-17 lead.
Having ended their first appearance at nationals just shy of a medal is a victory in itself for the steadily improving Gees team, and surely next year’s season will be one to watch.
