On this last full week of school, go for a morning stroll through the ByWard Market and stop at Angelina Cafe (11 Murray St). Here, you can get a caffeine kick for cheap: coffee only costs a dollar.

At night, support Canadian hockey by watching the Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship taking place this weekend at Scotiabank Place. Watch a classic rivalry as Canada and the U.S. battle it out on the ice, and stick around for the bronze- and gold-medal games on Sunday. Check out the game schedule and buy tickets at discounted student prices at Scotiabankplace.com.

If you want to get everyone together before the storm of exams hits, check out MacLaren’s (301 Elgin St.). This old-fashioned pool hall is an Ottawa classic where people of all ages can find a booth and have a good time. Gather up a bunch of friends to pitch in on a pool table rental for an hour or two or simply stop in for a late-night drink and nacho plate. Located just across the Somerset foot bridge, MacLaren’s is only a quick jaunt from campus.

Saturday, April 6
Regardless of the weather conditions, we say there’s no bad time for ice cream. Ottawa has some fantastic ice cream and gelato shops—our top pick is the Piccolo Grande (55 Murray St.) for its amazing flavours, atmosphere, and prices.

Before you and the library get better acquainted during the exam period, spend a night out at Casino du Lac-Leamy across the border in Gatineau. There are often a variety of performances taking place at the casino, so whether you visit for dinner, entertainment, or just some good old-fashioned gambling, you’re sure to have a blast. This is a really fun chance to get dressed up and have a fancy night out trying your hand at cards or playing the slot machines. Set a limit for your spending so you can afford food for the rest of the semester, and if you get lucky, you’ll end up going home with your pockets a little heavier than when you left home.

Sunday, April 7
Two arts and crafts shows are taking place in Ottawa this weekend. The Ottawa Artisans Guild Spring Craft Show is being held at Lester B. Pearson High School—admission is free and many local artists will be showing and selling their work.

At the Ottawa Convention Centre, mere steps from campus, you can browse locally and nationally designed pieces at the Originals: Spring Craft Sale from April 4–7.

For some quality Sunday pub grub, Chez Lucien (137 Murray St.) has a big name and a bigger menu. This little hole in the wall serves up an unbelievable burger, with a plate full of fries and salad. If you’re in a hurry or are craving something sweet, be sure to get the fondue for two—it’s to die for. The atmosphere is cozy, casual, and comfy—the restaurant does fill up fast, though, so make sure to grab a seat early.
