Kate Gauvreau removed after three years at restaurant

Kate Gauvreau was removed from her position Nov. 15 with no clear reason as to why she was dismissed.
The Graduate Students’ Association (GSAÉD) operates the café. GSAÉD student life commissioner Patricia Barra de la Tremblaye was unable to comment on the reason for Gauvreau’s dismissal because it is “legally privileged based on how the termination was done.”
“For now, all we can say is that Kate Gauvreau no longer works at Café Nostalgica and that we wish her the all the best,” Barra de la Tremblaye wrote in an email. “GSAÉD will not speak publicly about human resources or the work history of any of its employees.”
Gauvreau was employed at Café Nostalgica since June 2010. She oversaw the reconstruction of the popular graduate student bar and guided the café to a 65 per cent increase in sales from 2011 to 2012.
Gauvreau was unavailable to comment.
Nostalgica has recently run into issues, including the removal of its liquor license. The bar hasn’t been able to serve alcohol since Oct. 7 when its temporary liquor license expired and permanent application was rejected. At the time, Gauvreau said the issue was a bureaucratic mix-up at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) caused by construction delays due to a province-wide strike by the International Union of Elevator Constructors. The café has yet to receive its renewed license.
It is unknown who will replace Gauvreau, but the position has been posted online.
