On May 5, the University of Ottawa opened the first campus space dedicated to alumni, Alex Trebek Alumni Hall, at 157 Séraphin Marion Private. The Jeopardy! host and U of O alumnus, Alex Trebek spoke at the opening.

Trebek unveiled a display featuring photos from his time as a student and career, as well as several awards, including an Emmy for Lifetime Achievement. He graduated from the U of O in 1961 with a degree in philosphy.

The space was funded in part through a donation Trebek made to the university of $2.4 million, as well as financial support from the Alumni Association, Johnson, Inc., MBNA, Canada Life, and campus faculties.

The space will be used to host the Alex Trebek Distinguished Lecture Series, with the first event featuring Thomas L. Friedman on May 8 at 6 p.m. Friedman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and New York Times columnist. At the opening, Trebek pointed out that Friedman was a contestant on Celebrity Jeopardy!, though not a winner.
