THE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT body has elected Patrick Marquis as vp social for the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa’s 2013–2014 term.

According to preliminary numbers, the unopposed Marquis received 2,930 votes for and 712 votes against.

A third-year civil engineering student, Marquis is the only member of the Together Ensemble affiliation to be elected to the SFUO.

After the election results were announced, a visibly upset Marquis consoled Together Ensemble supporters and his fellow affiliates. Marquis declined to be interviewed, but Together Ensemble campaign manager Elliott Lockington spoke on behalf of the affiliation.

“We really appreciate everyone’s hard work—the team did really well,” he said. “They had a really competitive team on the other side. We got hit with some penalties. That’s life—that’s the nature of the campaign. Everyone put their hearts in it, from the [Board of Administration candidates] to the executive.”

Prior to the release of the results, Marquis told the Fulcrum what he anticipated would be his greatest challenge if elected vp social.

“Promotion—making sure that everyone comes to every event,” he said.

Although Marquis is a newcomer to the SFUO executive, this will not be the first time he has served as a vp social. He currently holds the same position on the Engineering Students Society.
