University of Ottawa alumnus and host of popular television game show Jeopardy!, Alex Trebek, has died at age 80 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. The news was confirmed by the game show on Sunday.
University of Ottawa alum Alex Trebek announced the Ottawa Senators’ third overall section in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Jeopardy! host was introduced by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman as a “Graduate of the University of Ottawa” giving the U of O international exposure.
Alex Trebek’s most recent funding boost to the university brings his total donations to $9.5 million. The money will be used to support the Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue.
Trebek said that he will proudly display his Order of Canada medal along with other awards and trophies in his home. You can also find several of his awards on display in the Alex Trebek Alumni Hall at the U of O.
Fennell started the game out strong, answering several of the first questions correctly, but ended up placing third. However, he says that it was a positive experience with a unique U of O connection.
Kelly was recognized for her local volunteer work with foster children in the Ottawa community and her international volunteer work in Uganda this past April.
The discussion, which took place in Tabaret Hall, served as a launching pad for the new Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue, which was developed following a $5 million donation by Trebek himself.
