Carleton University started the Dr. Marc Andrew Hewson Memorial Scholarship this month with a literature panel and award for the first recipient of the prize, named in honour of an English professor who taught at Carleton and the University of Ottawa.
“Come and see me, let’s talk about writing,” is how Birdsell summarizes her job as writer-in-residence.
The novel is set in a near-future Ottawa in which corporations are phasing out the public sector, and conspiracies abound. Following the death of the CEO of the titular Omphalos Corporation, Detective Beldon seeks to find the killer, driven by a suspicion that the company is connected to the events of the previous novel.
