On Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, University of Ottawa students cast their votes in Ontario’s unprecedented snap election — so what comes next?

2,482 undergraduate students voted in the elections; a turnout rate of 6.74 per cent. This is notably a point lower than the turnout for the most recent by-election which had 2,999 ballots cast for a 7.7 per cent turn out — the highest by-election turnout in UOSU’s brief history.
The votes are in for the 2017 Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) general election, which saw a 14.6 per cent voter turnout—a large improvement compared with last year’s 7.8 per cent turnout.
The simple fact is, a “none of the above” option gives a voice to everyone, even if they don’t like any of the candidates. And let’s be honest, such a scenario is not out of the question.
The unofficial election results for the Graduate Students’ Association (GSAÉD) came in late March 19, with an independent candidate winning the only contested race among five allied candidates.
