“It’s magic … when there’s a crowd in here, and … snow is falling outside, (and) everybody’s got a drink—it’s a very intimate space for people to kick back, have a drink, and listen to the authors reading from their work—it’s really magic.”
The Booker Prize winning author was a featured guest at the special event hosted by the Ottawa International Writer’s Festival. Charismatic and humorous, he led the audience through insightful dialogue spanning topics from religion and philosophy to language and authorship while promoting his new book.
“I said I only teach serious heterosexual guys like Marcel Proust and Truman Capote,” said Gilmour. “My assumption was that the journalist was sophisticated enough to understand that those are two of the gayest guys who ever lived, but apparently that went over her head and she thought I was being homophobic and taking a shot at gay writers.”
