The report, released on Monday March 25, details that McInnis has been on paid administrative leave or suspension from coaching and his role as club executive director with the Ottawa Lions since Sept. 13, 2018, as a result of sexual harassment complaints made to the club in 2018. McInnis was also “reprimanded by the club” after complaints of sexual harassment made in 2016.

On Tuesday the Ontario government announced they would double their 2018-19 investment in a fund for programs combating sexual violence on campuses, and released a series of new requirements for post-secondary institutions alongside their summary report of the 2018 Student Voices on Sexual Violence Survey.

There’s a plethora of sexual harassment that goes on at the U of O. Relationships between two consenting adults shouldn’t be the university’s primary concern. Instead, they should focus on the sexual assault convict studying at that the U of O law school. Or maybe the former UOHS doctor who’s facing over 80 charges of sexual assault.

In nominating Casey Affleck, the Academy is blatantly choosing to ignore the mistreatment of women. In fact they are choosing to represent him and the many other men whose careers come before basic human rights.

In case you haven’t heard the news, most cases of campus sexual harassment are committed by university professors. At least, this is the allegation levelled by Angelina Chapin in her Ottawa Citizen op-ed titled “Universities need to focus on harassment, not just on sex assault.”
