CUPE 2626, the union representing teaching assistants, tutors, residence life workers, and other employees at the U of O, has been bargaining with the university for a year following the expiration of their previous agreement.
The University of Ottawa Board of Governors (BOG) met on May 29 to approve their newly curated 2023-24 budget, which includes a 40 per cent decrease of admission scholarships for first-year students, and tuition increases for Canadian students and permanent residents, as well as international students.
“Increasing tuition would plunge students into debt and out of universities. It would make our education non-accessible,” warned UOSU’s president Armaan Singh Kheppar.
