As the year comes to an end, we decided to look back on significant stories the Fulcrum published in 2021. Instead of simply republishing the stories, we thought we’d do something different and offer readers a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the year’s biggest stories came to be.
“To say personal information was leaked would be reductive of the mixture of shock, shame, and humiliation myself and the other 110 individuals have felt as a result of the negligent actions of the UOSU. For me, being made aware of the public access to my past … was a nagging reminder of a lonely, vulnerable period in my life, of which I would rather not repeat.”
“We take our responsibility to protect our members’ personal information seriously, and we sincerely regret that this incident occurred,” wrote the University of Ottawa Students’ Union in an incident notice.
A total number of 111 students were listed on the document along with their personal student numbers and emails.
