In April of 2017, I was in a pretty bad place. It was Brantford, Ontario, where old white people go to retire. My parents had moved there earlier that year, and I was home for a weekend in between final exams. That’s where I tried to take my life.

Of course, if a temporary leave is necessary and agreed to by the student, it’s good that such measures are available. But making such a major decision without the student is not acceptable.
While assignments are important, it doesn’t mean that the well-being of students can’t be taken into consideration when creating assignment deadlines.
Until those allegations turn into charges, it’s better for venues to give fans the right to choose their response, and decide whether or not they want to see a band that has had sexual assault allegations made against them.
The Williams Lake Indian Band case is an example of courts leading the way in the path towards reconciliation, but there is still much work to do.
As a sidenote, I went to my neighbours’ house to see if they still had the package but despite the lights being on, no one answered the door, because everyone is the worst.
We should demand more from our democracy.
There’s a lot to do, but setting up clear rules and structures within the SFUO will go a long way towards improving the organization in general, as well as its work environment.
Having the campus media at the centre of elections for our student unions, by asking tough questions and ensuring that candidates are prepared for any issue that may arise if elected, is critical to the proper functioning of an open and transparent student democracy.

It turns out that there is still more that Canadians, especially politicians in general, at different levels of government, can do to promote this important time of year.
We owe the U of O administration a pat on the back for listening to students’ concerns about modernizing our campus.
Ontario has already begun requiring more nutritional information on food be available to consumers and there’s no good reason to not do so with alcohol.
