Both Fauteux Hall and the 1 Nicholas building were evacuated and closed Jan. 12 after main water breaks. In addition classes were cancelled at Fauteux Hall shortly after 9 a.m. and the university has since extended the cancellations for the entire day.

An hour after the water main break was announced in Fauteux, the university announced by email and on its site that the 1 Nicholas building, which houses the Office of Risk Management and members of Health Services, also suffered a water main break and was closed.

District Realty, the company that manages 1 Nicholas, released a statement that said water is present in the basement and elevator pit. According to the statement, “the elevators were shut down as a preventative measure and, in doing this, the building was evacuated and closed.”

“Until all life safety issues… for the building are evaluated, the building will remain closed today,” read the statement.

The university later issued an email saying that 1 Nicholas would remain closed on Jan. 13 as well, with no further updates on Fauteux.
