Men’s Gee-Gees gallop past Rams

Friday marked the beginning of the Year of the Horse on the Chinese calendar, and the Gee-Gees started the new year off at a gallop as they took down the Ryerson University Rams 70-63.

Despite their seven-point victory — which brings their season to 15-2 — the Gees had an off-night in shooting percentage and scoring.

Everything was business as usual for stars Terry Thomas and Johnny Berhanemeskel as the two led the team with 23 and 20 points, as well as nine and seven rebounds, respectively.

The men will look to get back to their powerhouse offence on Saturday night when the flagship schools of Ontario’s two biggest cities meet again, as the Gees take their talents to the University of Toronto for a date with the Varsity Blues at 8 p.m.

Women’s team grabs the win

The Gee-Gees women’s basketball team narrowly escaped with a 59-57 victory on Friday night against the struggling Ryerson University Rams. The team was able to get back into the win column following a disappointing loss to Queen’s University on Jan. 25.

The ladies however were not able to find an answer to their recent shooting woes, only shooting 30.6 per cent from the field. Luckily, the Rams’ shot a less impressive 23.2 per cent allowing the opportunity for Ottawa to steal the win.

The Gee-Gees relied on fifth-year forward Angela Tilk to get the job done against her former team on Friday night. Tilk led the team with 15 points and an astounding 17 rebounds.

On Saturday night, the women will look to add another win to their 12-5 record when they move up the street to take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at 6 p.m.
