Natsuki Szczokin drives the Gee-Gees to a win in preparation for the anticipated Capital Hoops against Carleton

The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees dominated the court this Saturday, more than doubling Ontario Tech’s score with a commanding 111–42 victory.

The game was fast-paced for the Gee-Gees, with them having complete control of the ball, the plays, and the pace. In the first quarter, the garnet and grey demonstrated their dominant energy, creating an already hard standard for the Ridgebacks to follow, scoring 32 points against Ontario Tech, who barely reached double digits on the scoreboard

The second quarter began, and Ontario Tech scored the first basket. However, there were no feasible opportunities for them to reach the Gee-Gees’ score, and only another 12 points were added to their score sheet by halftime. The Ottawa team scored 27 more points, making the score at halftime 59-22.

This quarter highlighted Gees point guard Natsuki Szczokin’s shooting prowess with three three-pointers. This contributed to the lead the University of Ottawa had been building while leaving the Ridgebacks behind by 16 points and also showcased their defensive strategies, as they allowed the Ridgebacks to score no more than seven points this quarter.

The fourth and last quarter began with the scoreboard showing 82–29. The Ridgebacks were clearly left behind early, and despite a last-minute push to reach 42 points, they still fell short.

The Gee-Gees extended their lead with 29 more points, hitting triple digits. Regarding three-pointers, Sophie-Anne Bouffard scored two three-pointers, finishing with a career and game-high five in total, showing her determination and domination in the game.

This is Ottawa’s seventh win in a row. It is a perfect game before the Capital Hoops Classic this Friday at TD Place, starting at 6 p.m. against Carleton University. Tickets for the game are available online
