Gees forward Vincent Labelle scored his fourth, fifth, and sixth goals of the season on Telfer Night

The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees continued their four game winning streak against the University of Toronto on the ice this past Friday as January came to an end.

Ottawa scored early, just under a minute into the game. OUA rookies Andrew Belchamber and Mitch Martin took advantage of the power play, assisting Vincent Labelle, who shot a close-range puck into the back of the net.

The pace after the first goal was set by the garnet and grey, with a quick and fast showdown. However, Toronto managed to match the speed, and after a brutally competitive game, scored the second goal of the game and the first for the team. Props given where they are required—it was a magnificent shot from the circle, tying up the scoreboard.

The second period matched with the goals, as that’s when Labelle scored once again with another assist by Belchamber. The puck went into the goal after a cohesive play between the Ottawa players that allowed Belchamber to shoot onto the second post of the goal from just outside the goalie’s crease.

The second period ended with a heavy fight between the two teams after Toronto forward Jacob King shoved a Gee-Gee, resulting in both Charles-Antoine Roy and Anthony Poulin earning a penalty for roughing, while the Toronto player received a 10-minute penalty for misconduct.

The third period came around, and Labelle scored his hat trick, making it his third this game and sixth this season. This time, he was assisted by Zack Giroux, creating a two-goal difference between the teams and securing a bigger advantage for the last minutes of the game.

For the fourth and last goal, Toronto pulled their goalie to try and gain a player advantage. However, Gees defender Peter Stratis stole the opportunity and scored on an empty net, making it 4-1 by the end of the third period.

The Gee-Gees would continue their win streak with another 4-1 victory over the Carleton Ravens the following night.
