CARLETON W NOT FOUND, GEES MAINTAIN THEIR FIVE-YEAR COLONEL BY CLASSIC WINS TREAK

The 2025 Colonel By Classic opened with the Gee-Gees women’s hockey team taking the ice against the Carleton Ravens. Going into this lopsided match-up the Gees sat third in the OUA East with a record of 7-6, whereas the Ravens came in at 4-10.

Early in the Gees’ first power play, Gillian Warren received the puck above the circle, patiently waiting for Ravens’ Payton Miller to bite, dangling around her, then sliding it by Kaitlyn Langille for the first goal of the game.

Just six minutes later, with a two-on-one opportunity, Warren found Ella Humphrey across the crease for a free goal, putting the Gees up two.

After an even second period, with only 13 seconds remaining, Alex Ferguson found the back of the net from a gritty rebound. Going into the final period, the Gees had a comfortable 3-0 lead.

In the middle of the third period, the Gees were on the power play, a big shot from Ella Humphrey at the blue line was tipped in by TJ Flores for their second goal of the season, lifting the Gees to 4-0.

Although time was running out for the Ravens, they did manage to spoil Clara Genier’s shutout after a special 25th shot passed by the goalie.

Time came to a close, and the Gees were the victors of the Colonel By Classic, 4-1. Absolute domination from the Gees, cruising through this game with ease and finesse to lift the Alerts Cup for the fifth year in a row.

Having been a key contributor in four of those previous victories, Captain Béatrice Bilodeau expressed:  “[the win] feels great. It was a great way to end the semester, and get ready for the season after Christmas. Great feeling, and great energy today.”

Where a more analytical view of the game came from head coach Ali Domenico: “Our offence came together today. We were tacking down pucks, and creating offence from that, which was a focus heading into the game today.” Shouting on some standout performance from the goalie, “Clara Genier has been great for us, she’s really stepped into her own this year.” Letting only one goal in from the Ravens’ 31 shots on target.

With their last win of the semester, the Gee-Gees women’s hockey team maintained their third place ranking in the OUA East, while the Carleton Ravens moved down to last.
