BILODEAU AND FERGUSON’S OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER EXTENDS OTTAWA’S WIN STREAK
The Gee-Gees women’s hockey team continued their strong start to the season with a commanding 4-0 shutout victory over the Lancers on Saturday afternoon in Windsor. The win marks Ottawa’s fourth of the year and showcased sharp offense and defensive composure, shutting down every Windsor power play opportunity.
From the outset, the Gee-Gees defence remained solid, limiting Windsor’s offensive zone time and keeping most of their shots to the perimeter.
After killing off an early Windsor power play, the Gee-Gees turned the tide in their favour. In the middle of first period, captain Béatrice Bilodeau opened the scoring with her second goal of the season, finishing a feed from Naomi Morin to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
The Gees continued to build on their advantage going into the second period. Barely a minute in, Alex Ferguson doubled the Gee-Gees’ lead by converting on a setup from Alexa Pongo and Ella Humphrey.
Ottawa then capitalized on Windsor’s penalty troubles with Ferguson striking again thanks to assists from TJ Flores and Sydney Lynch, pushing the score to 3-0.
The Lancers’ attempts to respond were repeatedly denied by the Gee-Gees’ penalty-killing unit, which went a perfect five-for-five that evening.
In the third period, the Lancers pulled their goalie late in the frame in hopes of sparking a comeback. Nevertheless, Bilodeau sealed the result with an empty-net goal, her second of the game and third of the season, cementing the 4-0 final.
The win highlighted the Gee-Gees’ defensive depth and balanced scoring, as well as the continued emergence of key forwards like Bilodeau and Ferguson. Ottawa’s goaltending turned away every Windsor opportunity to record the team’s first shutout of the season.
With the victory, the Gee-Gees remain the only undefeated team in the OUA at 4-0, and sit second in OUA East standings just behind a 5-1 Queen’s.Following their strong start, the team is looking ready for a breakout season.
