For the U of O men’s hockey team, the 2019-20 season was about finishing what they started. The Gee-Gees fought through the playoffs, playing in a historic Queen’s Cup game before heading to Halifax for the USports national championship tournament. Unfortunately, the Gees were unable to hit the ice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Gee-Gees men’s hockey team was back on ice on Thursday night for Game 1 of their OUA Eastern Conference finals with the Concordia Stingers. Facing a hot goalie, the Gee-Gees were dominant and outshot their opponents, but after two periods Patrick Grandmaitre’s boys were down by one.
Brendan Jacome scored two goals late in the third period of Friday night’s game to keep the Gee-Gees alive in their best of three series with the UQTR Patriotes. Teammates Kevin Domingue and Jacob Sweeney added empty netters to secure the win for the Gees, who took the game 5-3.
Gee-Gees defenceman Jean-Robin Mantha was back on the ice for the first time since the 2017-18 season on Sunday night. Mantha, who’s been fighting testicular cancer for the last year and a half, looked to bring the Gee-Gees a win against the RMC Paladins.

The Gee-Gees opened up the 2018-19 season on the road against their crosstown rival Carleton Ravens on Oct. 11.
