The University of Ottawa Students Union has responded to budget cuts by closing Foot Patrol, the Multifaith Centre, the Peer Help Centre, and the Bilingualism Centre.

Foot Patrol, a University of Ottawa Students’ Union (UOSU) offered service, has moved their operations to telephone-only due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
The new union will offer the same services as the SFUO except for UOSERT, which is now operated by Protection Services. The Women’s Resource Centre and Pride Centre will also be merged.
“We told UOSU that if a plan wasn’t in place very soon we have been advised that we have no choice but to start a process we want to avoid” —Paige Booth.
These services were voted in by students, for students, and for the most part are run by students. In threatening the stability of these services, the Ford government is ignoring the democratic means through which these services came to be.
The best thing about the size of our campus is all the nearby services. Your tuition and fees pay for these services, so you might as well use them. Beyond the unique programs they offer, these resource centres also offer challenging and fun volunteer and work opportunities. Here’s a list of some of the best.

The University of Ottawa’s Foot Patrol raised money last week for Shannen’s Dream, a First Nations charity dedicated to equal education for all students.
