Despite the loss, the team did get recognition for the players’ hard work. Seven Gee-Gees players were recognized by the OUA for their strong performances this year, both on and off the field.
After starting the season with a perfect 9–0–0 record, the Gee-Gees women’s soccer team underwent a minor setback with a pair of ties.
The game was even more important for the Gee-Gees as they said goodbye to their star seniors—Cynthia Leblanc, Julia Francki, and Pilar Khoury along with role players Mélissa Pesant, and Elisabeth Wong.
The feel of this year’s team is remarkably different from past years. Nevertheless, the players are proving to triumph despite the team’s more youthful roster.
The seemingly unstoppable Gee-Gees women’s rugby team extended their undefeated season with a dominant 33-7 win over conference contender Université de Montréal Carabins.
As thousands of fans packed into Gee-Gees Field, the team prepared to live up to the hype after an entire offseason of work. The tunnel inflated and smoke machines billowed as Jay Z & Kanye West’s ominous “No Church in the Wild” blared, leading the Gees onto the field. It was only a matter of minutes until the team would impose their will on the Gaels.
“I think it affected me a lot more on a personal level than it did the rest of the team,” she said. “Since I’ve been around for five years and every year we haven’t lost until now, and it being my last year playing against them, it was disappointing to have experienced that.”
The Gee-Gees spurred their hooves against Queen’s, Guelph, Waterloo, and Western on Nov. 16–17 in the Stratten divisional championship in Guelph. Although they only ranked third overall, their performance was exceptionally strong.
The ever-competitive Gee-Gees women’s volleyball team began its season with two victories this weekend, against Queen’s University on Oct. 25 and Royal Military College (RMC) on Oct. 27.
