Members of the Support Staff of the University of Ottawa union are set to vote in a forced final offer vote next week to accept or reject a “final offer” made by the University of Ottawa. According to the PSUO-SSUO’s vice president, the offer fails to address issues such as unfulfilled vacancies, the hiring of more academic advisors and mental health workers.
The union representing support and administrative staff at the U of O says their bargaining unit met with the university administration after 84 per cent of their members voted in favour of a strike mandate last month, but a tentative collective agreement was not reached.
Almost 85 per cent of staff supported a strike mandate as the SSUO negotiates a collective agreement with the university. The SSUO represents around 1,200 employees, ranging from financial aid advisers and Student Academic Success Service counsellors to library staff and co-op specialists.
Support staff at the University of Ottawa have given their bargaining unit a strike mandate, with 79 per cent in favour.
