UOSU has completed its first report on what will be an ongoing investigation of the Muslim, Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) student experience on the U of O campus.
The University of Ottawa Muslim Students’ Association is welcoming the third prayer space that was opened on Lees campus three weeks ago, but they say it lacks the accommodations and ease of access students require. They’re also still waiting on an ablution space they were told was in the works four years ago.
We asked volunteers what everyone should know about Islam, and why.
“The first step is knowledge and gaining knowledge, and being aware of what’s going on in your society. So long as you’re aware and conscious of other religions, and you’re there to respect them, that can really tone down a lot of things.”
Like it or not, Canada is not immune to the rise of Islamophobia that is plaguing Western society.
As the UOMSA is requesting space for the religious purposes of a large number of students, it is without a doubt more pressing than many requests. However, space is an issue on this campus for everyone.
