The BOA’s disciplinary committee found that Dorimain had a U-Pass despite not being qualified for one. However, the committee said it was obtained under special circumstances, taken from a group of passes that were not distributed due to errors.

The university’s Board of Governors and APTPUO members will attempt to ratify the tentative deal on Nov. 24. If the deal is ratified it will be in place until August 2018, at which point a new deal will need to be negotiated.

When professors go on strike, they are required to cease all communication with students. As part-time professors currently make up 50 per cent of all teaching staff at the U of O, this could mean that a large portion of the university’s student body would be out of classes indefinitely, which would put midterm exams and other assessments on hold.

The University of Ottawa is working towards becoming a completely smoke-free campus to promote a healthier environment for students. The discussion surrounding a potential smoke free campus started as a result of two main initiatives: a student survey conducted this past spring and rapidly approaching changes in Ontario legislation.

On Sept. 26, 2017, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau introduced Mona Nemer, a professor at the University of Ottawa’s department of biochemistry, microbiology and immunology as Chief Science Advisor to the Government of Canada. In this role, Nemer will advise Trudeau and the Minister of Science by providing an objective and nonpartisan connection to the academic world.
