ATPUO STRIKE LIVE UPDATES
The Association of Teaching Professors at the University of Ottawa (ATPUO) has officially begun strike action as of midnight on Nov. 7. A mediation session held on Oct. 6 between the ATPUO and U of O failed to resolve the impasse in negotiations before the Union entered a legal strike position.
The strike follows five months of contentious negotiations over a new collective agreement, and marks the first time ATPUO has gone on strike since the Union’s inception in 1986.

Until further notice, teaching professors’ courses are cancelled, grading and academic support services are suspended, and research supervision by those instructors has ceased. Teaching professors have also lost access to their university email accounts and online learning platforms, but many of them advise students to keep up to date with the course work outlined in their syllabi.

Émilie Bernier, ATPUO grievance officer, confirmed to the Fulcrum that picketing will begin around U of O’s main and Lees campuses on Nov. 9 starting at 8 a.m. Bernier also confirmed that a large rally will take place at 11 a.m. that same day on Cumberland Street between Laurier and University Private. Students are welcome to join their mobilization efforts and participate in ATPUO’s letter campaign to the Board of Governors.
The Fulcrum is committed to updating this article as the situation evolves.
