CHARLES-ANTOINE ROY SCORES GAME WINNER WITH MINUTES REMAINING

Zach Giroux, Charles-Antoine Roy and Mathieu Desgagnés scored for the Gee-Gees on Saturday, making the team’s three-game winning streak a four-game streak, sharpening their skills and confidence right before they play Carleton at the Colonel By Classic this Saturday.

The game started with the Gee-Gees aggressively looking to score, using drive and skill to pressure the black and gold teams. The first goal was pushed into the back of the net by Desgagnés right of a face-off into the upper corner, gaining the lead for the garnet and grey.

The second period began with an intense disadvantage for the Ottawa team. Right off the whistle, Waterloo scored not one but two goals, turning the tables on the garnet and grey team, which only served to rile U of O up and try to create multiple opportunities for the team.

The third quarter came around, the Gee-Gees were still in the bottom line. This created a high-tension game and added a level of physicality that had been accumulating for the first two periods.

With only one minute left in the game, the clock was ticking. The Gee-Gees had full control of the puck, trying and rebounding their shots until a shot from the upper corner rebounded and fell to Belchamber, who, with Bryant, assisted Giroux, resulting in Giroux’s fifth game of the season and the game-tying goal, sending the Ottawa and Waterloo teams into overtime.

However, in overtime, the Gee-Gees pushed through and showed the resilience and elimination of the team but did not allow the game to continue for much longer. With only four minutes on the clock, Charles-Antoine Roy scored the ending goal and his second of the season.

The Gee-Gees have an upcoming game this Wednesday, against RMC and Friday against Carleton, all in hopes of gaining as much tactical and on-ice practice for the expected Colonel By Classic game on Saturday. Make sure to buy tickets and show your support at TD Place at 4 p.m.
