The Gees take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in round one of the OUA East playoffs.
After a successful regular season, the Gee-Gees men’s hockey is suiting up for a postseason run. Finishing the 2024-25 regular season third in the OUA East with a record of 19-6-3, they finished with just one less win than last season but performed much better on the road where the games got tough.
This team is filled with talent and experience, with Andrew Belchamber, Zach Giroux, Mathieu Desgagnés, and Bradley Chenier each racking up more than 10 goals. The two young talented tendies, Franky Lapenna and Zach Dietz, earned the team the third-highest save percentage and the fourth in goals against in the league.
This year’s first-round playoffs will be a repeat from last year’s OUA East Division, where the Gees will take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks once again, where they swept the team 5-1, then 8-0 with two swift victories.
However, things have changed for both teams. In their first matchup in the regular season the Gees won by a slim margin 5-4, but would lose just eight days later to the Ridgebacks 4-1. In terms of regular season statistics, the Gees have the upper hand against the 16-9-3 Ridgebacks, with a better record by three more wins, nine more goals, and six fewer goals against.
The best-of-three playoff series begins on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at Ontario Tech, while the following two games will be played on home ice at the Minto Sports Complex on Feb. 21 and 22 if pushed to a final game. Make sure to catch the two home games to support the team and watch some action-packed playoff hockey, home game tickets are available here.
