An overtime victory

The men’s hockey team added a fifth victory to their win streak with an impressive two wins this weekend against Lakehead.  Their Friday night game ended 4–3 in a shootout after Lakehead managed to tie the game in the third period.  The game on Saturday ended 4–3 as well, but only after Ottawa came back from a 3–0 deficit in the third period.  The men’s team now moves up to fifth place in their division.

Both teams benefited from power play advantages on Friday, as three of the six regulation goals were scored with a player in the box.  The penalty damage continued Saturday night with both teams racking up more than 40 penalty minutes each.  Ottawa only managed to capitalize on one of these power plays, but it was enough to score 3 goals in the third period to tie the game. Fourth-year forward Stephen Blunden managed to put the puck in the net before the end of overtime to get the win, their second of the weekend and fifth in their current streak.

The team has three games left on the docket for the season, the next two being home games at the Minto Sports Complex.  The men’s team will go up against Concordia on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
