Nearly 200 show up to watch Gee-Gees’ 11–0 win against Trent University
THE GEE-GEES WOMEN’s soccer team brought the heat to the pitch Sept. 15 against the Trent University Excalibur. A crowd of almost 200 was there to support the team during an 11–0 blowout.
The Gee-Gees received the ball at the start of the match and barely allowed the women from Trent to respond. It was clear by the first whistle that the Gees’ Julia Francki was having a really good game; she finished the match with a pair of goals and a handful of remarkable plays.
Krista Draycott showed her domination on the stats sheet by scoring four times. Pilar Khoury did her part to remind fans why she is one of the Ontario University Athletics’ all-stars by scoring twice in the first half.
Gees’ head coach Steve Johnson said he wanted his team to focus on passing before finishing at the net. Draycott said that seeing the team hold a comfortable lead was great and gave them an opportunity to try new offensive plays.
With 11 minutes 42 seconds on the clock in the second half, Trent spoiled its first and only chance to put a shot into the net.
The fans were excited about the win. A couple long-time supporters of the team said they could easily see the team competing for a championship.
