The letter highlights a series of recommendations for a new student union: a constitution that can only be amended at an annual General Assembly with a majority vote, elections managed by an independent third party, a model of governance which includes mechanisms for punitive action should trust be breached, and accountability to its membership.

A formal complaint with the Ottawa Police Services (OPS) has been made by a resident of Barrhaven on Sept. 15 against Hadi Wess, former Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) president, who is currently running for city council in Ward 3, Barrhaven. Wess denies the allegations and the existence of a police report.

The Board of Governors met on Sept. 24 to discuss the past year’s budget, this year’s budget, the future of Brooks residence, Ontario’s free speech policy, and cannabis legislation on campus. At the end, the board went in camera to discuss the SFUO.

Ottawa heads to the polls on Oct. 22 to vote in this year’s municipal election. The Fulcrum spoke to candidates in five wards surrounding campus to hear their priorities and ideas on issues affecting students.

On Friday, Sept. 21, Market U landed on University of Ottawa’s campus, and brought together over 30 local vendors hoping to enhance the student lifestyle.
