This week Pamenter interviewed with the Fulcrum to explain the mechanism that describes how mole rats decrease their body temperature in hypoxia
“Many students who complete UROP go on to secure research contracts in their fields of study. Or, their UROP research propels them into great co-ops or graduate programs,” said Julie Vaillancourt, a UROP coordinator.
While the U of O wasn’t recognized for their research projects through this prestigious federal grant, there are so many innovative projects in the works across campus that, according to the Fulcrum, deserve funding.
The five year grant will allow the researchers to test the theory that there is an immunological link between Parkinson’s disease, Crohn’s disease and leprosy.
“Nobody is talking about important issues such as toilet paper reform on campus, or the broadcast of the Olympics, because they are all too busy studying,” said King.
“We’re going to have to change our strategy from a focus on peripheral student issues that really affect only those already invested in student politics to arguments about expanding study space during the school year.”
