French school board trustee Lucille Collard has won the provincial byelection in Ottawa-Vanier, which includes both Sandy Hill and the University of Ottawa campus, taking the historically red riding for the Liberals.
Vanier does not need outside bureaucrats to put some spit and polish on their main street or marginally improve their homelessness resources. They need entrepreneurial programs, social services, and educational opportunities that recognize the ward’s diversity.

Mauril Bélanger, Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ottawa-Vanier region, which the University of Ottawa is located, has been diagnosed with the incurable amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Bélanger told the Citizen he plans to continue to serve as an MP.
Police have made arrests in relation to two assaults that occurred in downtown Ottawa. On Tuesday evening, a 32-year-old international student was assaulted, and almost thrown off Cummings Bridge, located between downtown Ottawa and Vanier.
