The University of Ottawa men’s basketball team opened their second homestand of the season against the York University Lions on Friday night. With an excited home crowd in the bleachers, the Gee-Gees aimed to stay undefeated in the 2019-20 regular season.
After a tough first quarter where the Gee-Gees struggled to do much of anything against a might York lions team, Brooklynn McAlear-Fanus grabbed the ball and in a matter of minutes changed the game’s momentum.
Heavily favoured to win the OUA women’s soccer championships this weekend, the Gee-Gees suffered their first setback in years in an upset overtime loss to the York Lions on Friday.
While the Thunderwolves are a stronger opponent, the last time they came to Montpetit Hall, it was was another thrashing—with the Gees emerging victorious by a score of 83-55.
While they would emerge with a win in their first game, the season came to an end the following Saturday following a round two loss to the Ryerson Rams.
Although York did trouble the Gee-Gees early, it proved to be a big win for the Garnet and Grey, who eventually came together to defeat the smaller Toronto squad 42-16.
The University of Ottawa women’s basketball team split a two-game series against two Ontario University Athletics rivals, the York University Lions and the Queen’s University Golden Gaels on Feb. 10 and 11, respectively.

The ninth-ranked Gee-Gees football team rebounded and made light work of the York Lions in a 54–20 win.
The game was even more important for the Gee-Gees as they said goodbye to their star seniors—Cynthia Leblanc, Julia Francki, and Pilar Khoury along with role players Mélissa Pesant, and Elisabeth Wong.
