The University of Ottawa men’s basketball team traveled to Toronto and Kingston to face off against York University and Queen’s University. The Gee-Gees came away with two victories despite a lackluster start to the weekend.

As thousands of fans packed into Gee-Gees Field, the team prepared to live up to the hype after an entire offseason of work. The tunnel inflated and smoke machines billowed as Jay Z & Kanye West’s ominous “No Church in the Wild” blared, leading the Gees onto the field. It was only a matter of minutes until the team would impose their will on the Gaels.

Students always ask about the history of their school, and who might have thought of representing the University of Ottawa with a horse.  What the hell is a Gee-Gee and who thought of making this the symbol of pride for our athletes and students?
