The University of Ottawa (UOSU) held its Board of Directors meeting on July 23, the fourth of the term. The seven-hour meeting included a student statement, the establishment of a communications commissioner, and a debate on the controversial freedom of expression motion.
“I was unfortunately uncontested as was the operations commissioner and we only had two candidates for another role. And I think that is tragic, truly. I want to see more student engagement. I want to see those numbers go up in the voting, but also people will only show up to vote if there are candidates.”

All elected students were ratified.

The results of the University of Ottawa Students’ Union (UOSU) elections are in. The elections were held this week from March 9 to March 11, with results being released early on the morning of March 12.
The referendum questions are all concerning proposed fees designed to support new student services regarding advocacy, health, and legal representation.

“Of all parties to this report, academics should be fully aware of the fact that words matter. There is absolutely no need to use racial slurs in an academic setting. It is possible to have conversations about discrimination without using discriminatory language,” said Tim Gulliver, the University of Ottawa Students’ Union’s president.
“The salary adjustment would bring the executive salary from around $31,000 to about $34,000 on the condition executives complete several accountability goals throughout the year, like monthly reports and timesheets. This is not a drastic increase,” said the student union’s president Tim Gulliver.
