Sue Hylland to join the Gee-Gees for the upcoming season

The University of Ottawa has announced that Sue Hylland will take on the top-ranked director of Sports Services role, which has been vacant since January, effective Aug. 22.

Hylland is no stranger to varsity athletics, as she was a student-athlete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) league while studying at Bishop’s University, and eventually was named to the All-Canadian women’s basketball team.

Even after graduating Hylland has remained close to the CIS, as her daughter Kellie Ring is a U of O communications graduate and has been a major force as a guard on the Gee-Gees women’s basketball team.

Beyond her shining CIS run, Hylland brings her fourteen-year experience as president and CEO for the Canada Games Council and eighteen-year contribution to the Canadian Olympic Committee, where she led Canada’s operations in Nagano and Sydney.

Hylland comes as the successor to Marc Schryburt, who held a ten-month term as director of Sports Services before stepping down from the post for an undisclosed reason. Prior to his resignation, Schryburt was involved heavily with the re-launch of the Gee-Gees men’s hockey team, which was suspended in March 2014, and again in January 2015, after allegations that members of the team were involved in a gang sexual assault.
