In its beginnings, the college team had many years of success. It joined the Quebec Rugby Football Union (QRFU) in 1894 and ended its first season in the union with a perfect 4-0 record.
Gee-Gees
Lumsden, who was born in London, Ont. and grew up in Toronto, enrolled at the University of Ottawa in 1972 and began playing for the Gee-Gees’ varsity football team.
As a preamble to the hockey season which begins on Oct. 11, the Fulcrum talked to Réal Paiement to get a sense of how the team is shaping up.
The University of Ottawa is set to launch a new $15-million fundraising campaign aimed exclusively at improving Gee-Gees sport programs. .
“It’s really exciting, we’re finally getting the coaching that we wanted and it is helping a lot,” said Patrinos. “We’re coming together as a team. Once we connect and think more, we’ll be doing much better.”
At the home opener this past Sept. 6, the stands were packed with Gee-Gees fans and the men were ready to play.
This is the Gee-Gees’ second win this season, with a prior victory against the Waterloo Warriors.

“I thought our kids competed hard and that’s the way it goes sometimes,” said Derouin. “[Syracuse] has a great team, it’s a testament to their defense for sure.”
NOT EVERYONE CAN get into university on a sports scholarship that guarantees them a spot on the football team, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join a varsity team or a competitive club.

In their final run of the 2012–2013 season, the University of Ottawa women’s basketball team played in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Final 8 tournament in Regina, Sask. from March 15-17.

The team will travel to nationals with five all-star nods on top of Sparks’ coach-of-the-year honour. Gilbert and Kellie Ring were named to the OUA East first all-stars team, Stephen represents the Gees on the second team, and the duo of Traer and Julia Soriano were named to the all-rookie team.
In their third match of the season, the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East Division finals, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees women’s basketball team fell 50-43 to the Carleton University Ravens.
After having a phenomenal season of 14 consecutive wins and making it to the top 10 in Ontario University Athletics (OUA), the Gee-Gees earned this weekend’s success. The championships gave them the opportunity to play against western conference teams they hadn’t had the chance to play before.
