Encampment set up began evening of second day of sit-in
On the evening of Tuesday, April 30, the second day of the sit-in for divestment and solidarity in Gaza, an active encampment has begun on Tabaret Lawn as a result of administrative silence.
Originally proposed to be a sit-in by INSAF and the Palestinian Students Association (PSA) on Saturday, April 27, students have begun setting up tents and other equipment as a “direct response of the university’s unwillingness to respond to the attendee’s demands”.
INSAF and the PSA have not heard from university representatives since their public statement on Sunday, April 28 which advised against encampment the evening before the sit-in. The university has not responded to any of the Fulcrum’s requests to comment thus far.
INSAF and the PSA are asking that only University of Ottawa and Carleton University students and alumni participate in the overnight stay on Tabaret Lawn.
